The Ancient Egyptian Society
Welcome to the Ancient Egyptian Society!
The Ancient Egyptian Society is dedicated to Egyptophyles in the Gauteng province in South Africa. Browse through the navigation on the left to discover
more about our Society, when and where we meet, and what we get up to, all in the name of our passion for Ancient
Egypt.
For your benefit, here is a short description of the navigators.
About the Society introduces you to our society, our aims and objectives, and activities.
Membership and Contact have been put on the site to help you with the process of joining our society, or working with us on an activity dedicated to Ancient Egypt. Don't be shy to contact our Chairperson or Webmaster with any query.
Speaker's Programme is the cornerstone of our society. It allows us to meet once a month and listen to lectures on Ancient Egyptian topics, ranging from architecture, pharaohs, queens, sculpture and art, to gods, mythology, magic and everyday life in ancient Egypt. We also use it as an opportunity to compare notes and discuss theories over a cup of coffee. You can view the biographies of our speakers as they become available.
Library is our physical collection of books on ancient Egypt and related topics. These books can be borrowed by members at our monthly meetings. Egyptian titbits and relics can also be purchased from the Souk .
Check out our quarterly Newsletter under Pen of Thoth . Also as part of the service to our society members, keep an eye on our Blog for breaking news on ancient Egyptian Archaeological discoveries.
For South African children's literature on Ancient Egypt, check out the Children section.
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is modern Egypt's tribute to the great library of antiquity. The AES South African Friends of the Bibliotheca Alexandria, a subgroup of the Ancient Egyptian Society, are members of the Bibalex and currently the only group of this nature in South Africa.
Also on our site is a link to Nile Travel. Kim Lings, owner of Nile Travel and co-founder and corporate member of the Ancient Egyptian Society, offers very insightful, academic and highly customised tours to Egypt.
Apart from meeting once a month, we also organise various activities throughout the year. These may inlude discussion groups, workshops or outings. Once these activities have taken place you can read about them on our Social Media sites - follow us on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and our Wordpress Blog.
